Surprise Surprise with Costa Rica still in it for World Cup 2014. And they have a helluva match coming against Le Oranje, The Netherlands – last World Cups runner-up.
I lean to the Costa Ricans here, but per usual, we will let the drinks decide.
In this round, took the Costa Ricans back to the basics with my original drink, the Costa Rican Refresher – which had a lot of Rum and was exactly as stated.
So for this match, I have the Rico Tico on deck to compete in this match-up.
- 1oz White Rum
- 1oz Dark Rum
- 1/2oz Lime Juice
- 1/2oz Orange Juice
- 1/2oz Peach Schnapps
- 3oz Guava Juice
Mix all ingredients in ice filled shaker and pour into ice filled double rocks glass.
I actually ended up drinking like half this drink while deciding whether is was good or not. Originally I had planned on lemon juice instead of Orange juice, but when I made a half sized version of this, it did not taste right at all (too much tart from citrus). So, swapped juices and increased the Guava and there in lies the Rico of the Tico – Guava is sexy wherever you put it as far as I am concerned.
For the other side of the pitch – the mighty Netherlands sit pretty with some damn good drinks already, fine match play, and their on field goal scoring pressure is hard to stop.
And thus, for them built a drink that just goes straight for the throat but makes you feel good about it – the Oranje Blast.
Here I used my favorite sleeper booze – Gin! You can sub in Genevere to be more Holland like, since that is one of their top productions, but to me they are both the same. I actually upped the Gin content in this drink when making my concept, and really, you could go a full 2oz here and still be good with flavor and taste, even tho that would push this cocktail to 3.5oz of alcohol and almost 1:1 with the mixers.
- 1oz Gin
- 3/4oz Watermelon Schnapps
- 3/4oz Grapefruit Schnapps
- 1.5oz Orange Juice
- 1.5oz Orange Soda
Mix all ingredients except soda with ice, and strain into ice filled double rocks glass. Top with Orange Soda (Can garnish with orange wedge candy).
This drink is like chewing gum – great for awhile and then wears out. Treat it as such and savor for about 10 minutes and then start a new one. A good drink, and definitely like how it turned out overall.
With that tho, who wins here? We have sleeper cocktail vs sleeper ingredients. I would call this a draw if I could, but since there has to be a clear winner, I would say it comes to PK and Costa Rica sneaks on.
