World Cup 2014: Knock Out Rounds! Argentina vs Switzerland

The missing article for this World Cup 2014 series.

For whatever reason I did not type this up at all.

Turns out Argentina won anyways, so that made my drink pick true, but, it is important to me to make sure these posts get up, so, here it is!

For Argentina, and the wine restriction I have in place for them, I went with a modified Sex on the Beach, swapping out the Vodka with the Argentine Malbec, to stunning results. Once you make a cocktail with wine, you will be enlightened to the idea of using it more.

Argentine’s on the Beach:

  • 1.5oz Argentina Malbec
  • 1/2oz Peach Schnapps
  • 1oz Orange Juice
  • 1oz Cranberry Juice

Shake with ice and strain into cocktail glass.

With all the no-sex imposed on teams these days during the World Cup, I would think that naming a drink with sex in it might be a hex of sorts, so kept the name without.

For the Swiss, just kept more of the same, expanded on the prior drink, and created the Clear Skies, in homage to their very neutral attitude when it comes to disputes, and that I always see very clear skies when you see pictures of the country itself.

Clear Skies:

  • 1oz Hpnotiq
  • 1/2oz Peach Schnapps
  • 1/2oz Blue Curacao
  • 1/2oz Gin
  • Club soda

Shake with ice all ingredients except Club Soda – strain into short Collins glass and top with Club Soda.

Definitely like the look of this drink, and finished it soon after making it (and taking photos). My secondary taste tester noted that it had a “unique” taste, probably due to the varying liqueurs mixing with Gin (which is there for some kick).

As mentioned, the Malbec pulls the winner along here.
